Human Powered Web Services?

Posted by Eric Stewart Sat, 10 Dec 2005 18:56:00 GMT

Have you seen this yet? Amazon has opened a beta of it’s Amazon Mechanical Turk, a web services API ultimately powered by humans.

Apparently the web service API let’s you post a HIT ( or Human Intelligence Task) that Amazon will then offer up for people to perform for monetary compensation. It is based on the believe that there are many tasks that can just be performed better and faster by a human.

I found the link via someone (forgot who now, sorry) that though it was a joke and was correcting their earlier post.

ADC Phone Call

Posted by Eric Stewart Tue, 15 Nov 2005 18:56:00 GMT

Being a software developer and a Mac user means there is a pretty good chance you have registered for at least the free membership to the Apple Developer Connection. It seems to be a nice program, though I haven’t had the opportunity to heavily utilize it yet.

I was also a subscriber to MSDN (the Microsoft Developer Network) years back. These are great resources for developers.

I was quite pleasantly surprised earlier today when I discovered a phone message apparently from Apple regarding some developer related goings on. Neither the ADC or MSDN had bothered calling me about anything before.

The problem is I really don’t know what they were trying to point out. While the woman on the phone seemed to have a delightful British accent, her rapid firing of words and lack of enunciation left me puzzled. In the middle of it all I thought I made out universal binary and transition kit which is the only way know who the call was from or why.

I couldn’t even decypher the web address she pointed out. Hopefully there will be a handy email explaining it all soon. ;)

Is it really? I know that a resurgence in optimization is upon us with the slowing of processor upgrades but didn’t realize there was a resurgence already? Hmmm. Some people seem to think so.

Maybe Objective-C will benefit.
