Deep in the heart of Austin, Texas!

UT National Championship tower lighting
This is how the UT tower is lit when a national champtionship has been won by one of our sports teams.
On normal wins the tower is only in burnt orange, but it sure is nice to see the #1 on the sides yet again.
Hook ‘Em Horns!!!
Oh wait, we just did that!
Well, hook-em again!

Last night I gave a presentation at the second Austin Ruby on Rails User Group meeting on ActiveRecord Migrations. We had an excellent turnout (the room was small, but it was packed) for a December meeting.

It has been announced! I will be presenting about migrations in Rails and ActiveRecord at the December Austin Ruby on Rails User Group meeting.
Robert Rasmussen will talk about putting Ajax goodness into your Rails applications.
Last month was the first meeting and we had a good crowd (pretty full for the meeting space). Come on out and talk Rails with everyone!

Looks like Austin will have another Ruby related group. We already have Arctan, a general Ruby group that mostly meets at lunchtime these days. Today Robert Rasmussen announced the formation of a Rails specific group:
I’m happy to announce that a Ruby On Rails user group is starting
here in Austin.
The first meeting will be next Tuesday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. and will be hosted downtown at frog design (we plan to have monthly meetings). The details are at Austin Rails.
Hope to see you there!
Robert
Awesome! Developers like myself have had Austin on Rails for a while now, but now we can get together and talk about it.

The 2004 Austin City Limits Music Festival ended just over a week ago and I’m just getting around to mentioning it. This was my first year going and I highly recommend it!
For those who don’t know about this event, the festival runs for 3 days and has more bands participating than anyone can handle. It is basically 3 days of walking, listening, drinking, and enjoying the heat with 75,000 of your neighbors.
Some of my faves were:
Of course I missed a few I wanted to see:
- Clarence Gatemouth Brown
- Trout Fishing In America (was their children’s show though)
- The Wailers
Definitely go in coming years if you get the chance.
